Planetary Mixers

Planetary-Mixer

📝 Machine Overview

A Planetary Mixer is a high-precision industrial mixer distinguished by its unique agitator movement. The agitator (or agitators) rotates on its own axis while simultaneously orbiting around the mixing vessel’s central axis—mimicking the planetary motion of celestial bodies. This dual-action path ensures every part of the batch is subjected to intensive, uniform shear and kneading action. Designed to handle products ranging from viscous pastes and doughs to high-solid-content materials, planetary mixers are the cornerstone of repeatable, high-quality mixing in sectors where product consistency is non-negotiable.

    • Planetary mixers are ideal for applications requiring intensive mechanical action:

      • Adhesives & Sealants: Manufacturing of silicone, epoxy, polyurethane, and acrylic-based products.

      • Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals: Mixing ointments, creams, gels, pastes, and high-viscosity chemical intermediates.

      • Food & Bakery: High-grade doughs (cookie, pastry), thick batters, confectionery (marzipan, fondant), meat mixes, and fruit preparations.

      • Cosmetics & Personal Care: Production of lipsticks, creams, lotions, toothpastes, and deodorants.

      • Battery & Advanced Materials: Electrode slurries for Li-ion batteries, ceramic pastes, and composite materials.

      • Construction Materials: Grouts, mortars, tile adhesives, and waterproofing compounds.

    • The core mechanism involves a mixing bowl that is either fixed or can be lifted/tipped. One or more agitators are mounted on a rotating “arm” (the planet carrier). As the arm rotates, it carries the agitators around the bowl (the “orbit”). Simultaneously, each agitator spins on its own axis in the opposite or same direction, at a different speed. This creates a complex, overlapping shear pattern that thoroughly folds, stretches, and kneads the material, eliminating dead zones and ensuring complete homogeneity.

      • Single vs. Dual Agitator: Single agitator for standard batches; dual agitators for ultra-homogeneous mixing of extremely viscous or sticky products.

      • Fixed vs. Tilting Bowl: Fixed bowls with bottom discharge valves for liquids/pastes; tilting bowls for easy discharge of doughs and heavy masses.

      • Vacuum Capability: Integrated vacuum cover and system for de-aeration, critical for bubble-free products like optical adhesives or high-density ceramics.

      • Jacketed Bowls: For precise temperature control during exothermic or heat-sensitive reactions.

      • Laboratory & Production Scales: Available from 1-liter R&D units to 2,000-liter industrial production machines.
